Technological conditions of dubstep origin and its democratization

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza technologických specifik, které stály za zrodem dubstepu. Ten vznikl ve Velké Británii na počátku tohoto tisíciletí. Vyvinul se především z hudebního žánru UK garage, avšak jeho technologické zázemí sahá až do šedesátých let minulého století. Patrný vliv na něm zanechaly i žánry jako reggae, jungle, dub, grime a mnoho dalších. Abychom byli schopni vyhodnotit technologie, které jej pomohli vytvořit, bude třeba se zaměřit i na technologické zázemí hudebních žánrů, které jakýmkoliv způsobem dubstep ovlivnily. Z konkrétních případů se pokusíme abstrahovat fundamentální technologie, jejichž zvuk ovlivnil dubstepovou podobu zvuku a jejich proměnu do dnešní podoby.

Abstract:

The objective of this thesis is the analysis of technological specifics, which helped the birth of dubstep. This genre was created in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the present millennium. It has developed from the musical genre UK garage, although the technological background of dubstep could be traced back to the sixties. Other genres, such as reggae, jungle, dub, etc., have also a noticeable influence on dubstep. To be able to evaluate technologies which helped to create this genre, we'll have to focus on the technological background of said genres. From specific examples we'll endeavour the abstraction of fundamental technologies, whose sound influenced the sound form of dubstep and their evolution over the time.
