Intergenerational transmission of grit and dispositional hope

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá mezigeneračním přenosem dispoziční naděje a vytrvalosti, rozdíly v hodnotách dispoziční naděje, vytrvalosti, životní spokojenosti a vlivem osobnostních rysů Big Five na zmíněné proměnné u českých respondentů. Výzkumu se účastnilo 219 respondentů (73 rodin), přičemž data byla vysbírána od obou rodičů a jejich dítěte. Hlavním cílem práce bylo prozkoumat vzájemné vztahy a rozdíly mezi proměnnými, dále jsme sledovaly vliv osobnostních rysů na mezigenerační přenos a prediktivní sílu dispoziční naděje a vytrvalosti coby prediktorů životní spokojenosti. Použitými nástroji byly The Adult Dispositional Hope Scale – ADHS, Grit Scale – Grit-S, Satisfaction with Life Scale – SWLS a BFI-10. Objevily jsme statisticky významný vztah pro mezigenerační přenos dispoziční naděje u dětí a otců. Po kontrole osobnostních vlivů na přenos byl zjištěn těsnější vztah mezi otci a dětmi a byla zjištěna i signifikantní korelace mezi matkami a dětmi, která před kontrolou nebyla statisticky významná. Pro mezigenerační přenos vytrvalosti nebyly ani v jednom případě objeveny žádné signifikantní vztahy. Nejvyšší hodnotu dispoziční naděje vykazovala skupina otců, nejvyšší hodnoty vytrvalosti naopak skupina matek. Byly objeveny i významné korelace s osobnostními rysy a zkoumanými proměnnými u jednotlivých skupin. Zjistily jsme, že silnějším prediktorem životní spokojenosti je dispoziční naděje pro děti i obě skupiny rodičů. Pouze u skupiny otců je vytrvalost taktéž signifikantním prediktorem životní spokojenosti.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the intergenerational transmission of dispositional hope and grit, different values of dispositional hope, grit, life satisfaction and also with the effects of the Big Five personality traits on the mentioned variables among Czech respondents. The research included 219 persons (73 families) and the data were collected from both parents and their child. The main aim of this thesis was to explore mutual relationships and differences in variables, also to control the effects of personality traits on the intergenerational transmission as well as to analyze predictive strenght of dispositional hope and grit as predictors of life satisfaction. For research measurement we used The Adult Dispositional Hope Scale – ADHS, Grit Scale – Grit-S, Satisfaction with Life Scale – SWLS and BFI-10. We discovered a statistically significant relationship for the intergenerational transmission of dispositional hope in children and their fathers. This relationship was found stronger after controlling the personality effects and also a significant correlation of dispositional hope was found after this control in children and their mothers. No significant relationships were found in the intergenerational transmission of grit. The group of fathers scored highest in dispositional hope whereas mothers scored highest in grit. Significant correlations were found for personality traits and mentioned variables in all the three groups. We used regression analysis to explore the predictive strenght of variables and we found that dispositional hope was a stronger predictor of life satisfaction. Grit was found a significant predictor only in a group of fathers.
