The effect of parasitism on interspecies hybridization

Abstract:

Parazitismus a mezidruhová hybridizace u ryb Abstrakt Současné studie ukazují, že přirozená hybridizace hraje důležitou roli v evoluci mnoha rostlinných i živočišných taxonů. Křížení neboli hybridizace je termín obecně označující rozmnožování jedinců dvou různých druhů. Potomci, označovaní jako hybridi, získávají pak genetický materiál a vlastnosti obou rodičů. Hybridní zóny, oblasti, v nichž se dvě geneticky odlišné populace setkávají, kříží a tvoří potomstvo, poskytují experimentální materiál pro zkoumání podstaty rozdílů mezi vznikajícími druhy, mechanizmů vzniku nových druhů a role, kterou při speciaci hrají náhodné genetické procesy a přírodní výběr. Velmi často jsou tyto hybridní zóny využívány ke studiu evolučních procesů odpovědných za zákonitosti geografických variabilit mezi taxony a udržení jejich jedinečnosti. Hybridizace je relativně častým jevem u mnoha rybích druhů, proto byly ryby vybrány jako modelový organismus pro tuto práci. Jednotlivé kapitoly této bakalářské práce se zaměřují na problematiku definice druhu, hybridizace a hybridů, dále na vztah hybridizace k evoluci organismů, na vliv hybridizace na biodiverzitu a v neposlední řadě se zaměřují na výskyt hybridizace u ryb a vztah hybridizace a parazitismu u různých skupin obratlovců. Druhá část bakalářské práce je věnována charakteristice modelového organismu, Barbus barbus a B. meridionalis, jež podléhají přirozené hybridizaci. Dále je zde popis lokalit z oblasti jižní Francie, na nichž byly provedeny sběry v letech 2007 a 2008. V práci jsou také popsány metody použité při zpracování a determinaci parazitologického materiálu. Uvedeny jsou první výsledky. Především determinace ryb na základě morfologické analýzy srovnávané s výsledky analýzy mtDNA. Následně je připojen stručný přehled získaných parazitů a procentuální zastoupení jednotlivých taxonů.

Parasitism and interspecific hybridization in fish Abstract Recent studies have found that hybridization plays an important role in the evolution of many plant and animal taxa. Cross-breeding or hybridization is a term generally dealing with reproduction of individuals between two different species. Progeny termed hybrids get the genetic material and characteristics from both parents. Hybrid zones, the places, where two genetic different population meet together, mate and reproduce, provide the experimental material to investigate the main differences between the species, the mechanism of evolution of new species and the role of random genetic processes and natural selection in speciation, Hybrid zones have been very often used for study of evolutionary processes, providing insight into processes responsible for patterns of geographic variation among taxa and maintenance of their distinctiveness. Hybridization is relatively common among fish species; therefore the fish were selected as a model organism for this study. The individual chapters of this bachelor study are aimed to analyze the problems of species definition, hybridization and hybrids, a link of hybridization to the evolution of organisms, the effect hybridization on biodiversity, evolution of hybridizacion in fish species and the associations between hybridization and parasitism in different vertebrate taxa. The second part of the bachelor thesis is aimed to describe the model organisms, Barbus barbus and B. meridionalis, which are subjected to nature hybridization. Next there is a description of the localities of collections in South France, where the fish were collected in 2007 and 2008. The methods of fish manipulation and parasite determination are also included. The preliminary survey is presented in this thesis including the determination of fish individuals based on morphology and mtDNA analyses. Consequently the list of determined parasites is shown and the proportions of individual taxa are analyzed.
