Abortion and Women's Rights

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza legalizace interrupcí v kontextu vývoje práv žen. Základním problémem práce je prokázat, že rozhodnutí ženy podstoupit interrupci je z velké části podmíněno socioekonomickými podmínkami jejího života. V práci jsou vysvětleny základní pojmy a nastíněny důvody, které v 50. letech 20. století vedly k legalizaci interrupce v řadě zemí. Dále jsou analyzovány postoje k interrupcím v zemích, kde se v posledních letech objevují pokusy o zpřísnění podmínek přístupu k interrupci. Pozornost je věnována i právní úpravě interrupcí platné na území České republiky. Práce se dále zabývá vývojem práv žen a jejich postavením ve společnosti, jakož i postavením těhotných žen a žen-matek v pracovním právu a právu sociálního zabezpečení. Poslední část práce nastiňuje návrhy, které by mohly vést ke zlepšení postavení žen ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the legalization of abortion in the context of the development of women’s rights. The main problem is to demonstrate that a woman’s decision to have an abortion is largely determined by the socioeconomic conditions of her life. This thesis explains the basic terms and outlines the reasons that lead to the legalization of abortion in several countries in the 1950s. Furthermore, attitudes towards abortion are analyzed in countries where in recent years have been attempts to tighten the conditions for access to abortion. Attention is also paid to the legal regulation of abortion valid in the Czech Republic. It also deals with the development of women’s rights and their position in society, as well as the position of pregnant women and mothers in labor law and social security system. The last part of this thesis outlines proposals that could lead to the improvement of the position of women in society.
