Problems of public finance sustainability in Greece

Abstract:

Diplomová práce teoreticky vysvětluje problematiku deficitu, dluhu a udržitelnosti veřejných financí. Pomocí tohoto aparátu dokládá praktickou neudržitelnost veřejných financí Řecka za stávajících podmínek. Analyzuje obecné a především specifické příčiny řecké dluhové krize a identifikuje její možná řešení. Aplikací různých kritérií hodnotí vhodnost a pravděpodobnost realizace jednotlivých konkrétních alternativ těchto řešení. Velkou pozornost věnuje vlivu společné měny euro na tuto problematiku a reálnosti vystoupení Řecka z eurozóny.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis explains in theory the issues of deficit, debt and sustainability of public finances. Using this apparatus we demonstrate the practical unsustainability of Greek public finance in the existing conditions. We analyze the general and particularly the specific causes of the Greek debt crisis and identify the possible solutions. By application of different criteria we evaluate the suitability and likelihood of implementation of specific alternatives of these solutions. Great attention is paid to the impact of the euro on this issue and the reality of Greek exit from the euro area.
