Abstract:

Táto práca prezentuje Kubernetes Scavenger framework, ktorý je navrhnutý pre optimalizáciu využitia zdrojov v Kubernetes klustroch za pomoci využitia nečinných zdrojov prostredníctvom ďalších úloh nazývaných Scavenger úlohy. Motivovaný nedostatočným využitím cloudových zdrojov, má tento framework za cieľ zvýšiť cenovú efektívnosť Kubernetes klustrov. Využitím Kubernetes návrhových vzorov, ako sú napríklad operator, controller a webhook, implementuje tento framework nový vlastný Kubernetes objekt pre manažovanie Scavenger úloh. Súčasťou práce sú aj porovnania s inými riešeniami. Implementovaný a testovaný na reálnych Kubernetes klustroch, tento framework preukazuje praktické využitie a potenciálne prijatie v rôznych cloudových prostrediach. V práci sa diskutuje návrh frameworku, detaily implementácie, výsledky a aplikácia, spolu s budúcimi nápadmi na zlepšenie.

Abstract:

This thesis introduces the Kubernetes Scavenger framework, designed to optimize resource utilization in Kubernetes clusters by leveraging idle resources through additional workloads called Scavenger jobs. Motivated by the underutilization of cloud resources, the framework aims to increase the cost-effectiveness of a Kubernetes cluster. By using Kubernetes development patterns, such as the operator pattern, controllers, and webhooks, the framework implements a new Custom Resource for Scavenger jobs management. Comparisons with other solutions are listed as well. Implemented and tested on real Kubernetes clusters, the framework demonstrates practical viability and potential adoption in diverse environments. The thesis discusses the framework’s design, implementation details, results, and application, along with future directions for enhancement
