A comparison of different stochastic population models with regard to persistence time

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor thesis is a comparison of two different stochastic population models with regard to persistence time. We will study the discrete and continuous-time Markov chain models which are commonly used in population biology.At first we study the theory of stochastic population models where we describe the linear and the general birth and death process. Then the discrete and continuous-time Markov chain models will be discussed. These models take into account the random nature of the individual birth and death process-demographic variability but do not consider random fluctuations of the population in the environment. Finally we present some comparisons of the two Markov chain models to show that the models agree well.

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je porovnání dvou stochastických populačních modelů vzhledem k době přežití populace. Budeme studovat diskrétní a spojitý model Markovských řetězců, které se bežně používají v popuační biologii. Nejprve se budeme zabývat teorií stochastických populačních modelů, kde popíšeme lineární a obecný proces množení a zániku. Následně se budeme zabývat diskrétním a spojitým modelem Markovských řetězců. Tyto modely počítají s náhodností procesu množení a zániku vzhledem k demografické variabilitě, ale nepočítají z náhodným kolísáním populace v prostředí. Nakonec budeme prezentovat porovnání těchto dvou modelů Markovských řetězců, abychom ukázali, že se modely schodují.
