Biomarkers of cyanobacterial ecotoxicity

Abstract:

Sinice neboli cyanobakterie jsou prokaryotické organismy schopné v eutrofizovaných nádržích vytvářet tzv.vodní květ. Ten mimo problémů s využitím těchto nádrží ovlivňuje vodní ekosystém a negativně působí na vodní organismy. Na tomto působení se významně podílí toxiny sinic – cyanotoxiny. Sinice a jejich toxiny způsobují ve vodních organismech subletální změny na biochemické, fyziologické, histologické či morfologické úrovni, jež mohou být použity jako tzv. časné varovné signály neboli biomarkery jejich toxicity. Mezi biomarkery ekotoxicity sinic lze zařadit změny biochemických parametrů – parametry biotransformace a oxidativního stresu, aktivity protein fosfatáz a trávicích enzymů (převážně trypsinu a chymotrypsinu). Dále pak změny krevních a imunologických parametrů. Informativní funkci o subletálních změnách mají také změny chování a některé fyziologické a morfologické parametry, které však už za biomarkery běžně považovány nejsou.

Abstract:

Blue-green algae or cyanobacteria are prokaryotic organisms that are able to form blooms in eutrophicated waterbodies. The blooms cause problems with use of these waterbodies and negatively influence aquatic ecosystem and organisms. The cyanobacterial toxins – cyanotoxins play an important role in these negative effects. Cyanobacteria and their toxins cause subletal changes on biochemical, physiological, histological or morphological levels in aquatic organisms, which can be used as an early-warning signals or biomarkers of their toxicity. Among biomarkers of cyanobacterial ecotoxicity can be included changes of biochemical parameters – parameters of biotransformation, oxidative stress parameters, activities of protein phosphatases and digestive enzymes (mainly trypsine and chymotrypsine). Biomarkers can be also changes of haematological and immunological parameters. Behavioural changes and some changes of physiological and morphological parameters also have informative function about sublethal changes , but they are not commonly considered biomarkers.
