Critical Stylistic Analysis of News Reporting on Artificial Intelligence and Journalism in Different British and American Newspapers

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá různorodost jazyka zpravodajských článků na téma umělé inteligence a žurnalistiky, publikovaných v různých amerických a britských novinách. Stylistický přístup zkoumání jazyka byl zvolen jako klíčový, protože jazyk napomáhá utvářet celkové vyznění zpravodajských textů a může dále odhalit, jak média působí na své čtenáře. Ve vybraných článcích bylo analyzováno několik stylistických aspektů za pomocí manuální kvalitativní a prvků kvantitativní analýzy. Zjištěné výsledky poskytují hloubkový vhled do úrovně zpravodajského jazyka a mohou na ně navázat další výzkumy týkající se jazyka novin.

Abstract:

This thesis explores different language use in news articles about AI and journalism published in various American and British newspapers. The stylistic investigation of language was chosen as central because it helps to form the overall tone of the news reports and can further disclose the media’s influence on its readership. Several stylistic features were analysed in the chosen articles drawing on the manual qualitative and aspects of quantitative analysis. The findings provide an in-depth view of the level of news reporting style and could be built upon in further research of the language on the news.
