Communication skills developing and speech therapy intervention for Czech children living in the Great Britain

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá logopedickou intervencí u českých bilingvních dětí žijících ve Velké Británii. Hlavním cílem byla logopedická péče v české víkendové škole „Czech School Manchester in Stretford“. Ve třech teoretických kapitolách se věnuje problematice bilingvismu, běžnému vývoji řeči dítěte a vývoji řeči v bilingvním prostředí, dále seznamuje s možnostmi vzdělávání českých dětí v zahraničí a představuje projekt „České školy bez hranic“. Vysvětluje také pojmy diagnostika, fonetika, fonologie a narušená komunikační schopnost. Čtvrtá kapitola se zabývá samotným výzkumem, který je zpracován formou případových studií žáků české školy v Manchesteru, kteří pravidelně docházeli na logopedickou péči. Upozorňuje na hlavní problémy, se kterými se tyto české bilingvní děti často setkávají, a popisuje, jak tyto problémy řešit.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis is focused on the speech therapy intervention for the Czech bilingual children living in the UK. The aim was the speech therapy in the Czech School Manchester in Stretford. Three theoretical chapters are devoted to the issue of bilingualism, the normal development of the child's speech and language development in bilingual environments, later on they introduce the possibilities of education for Czech children abroad and present the project "Czech schools without borders". They also explain the terms diagnosis, phonetics, phonology, and communication disorder. The fourth chapter deals with the research itself, which is processed through case studies of students of the Czech school in Manchester, who were regularly attending the speech therapy course. It also explains the main problems these Czech bilingual children often face, and describes how to solve these problems.
