Use of decision trees in targeted advertising

Abstract:

Rozhodovací stromy jsou jednou z mnoha klasifikačních metod pro řešení úloh v moderní analýze. Některé z algoritmů rozhodovacích stromů byly použity jako možnost řešení úlohy pro zákazníka z restauratérského segmentu. V diplomové práci je úloha detailně popsána a jsou představeny klasifikační metody pro její možné vyřešení včetně rozhodovacích stromů. Pro vybrané vhodné metody řešení úlohy jsou zpracovány výpočtové algoritmy a jejich charakteristiky a jsou dále aplikovány na představenou úlohu pomocí softwaru IBM SPSS Statistics 20. Všechny výstupy algoritmů rozhodovacích stromů jsou hodnoceny na základě definovaných kritérií úspěšnosti řešení úlohy (interpretace, klasifikace, rizika a návratnosti investic). Dále jsou výsledky algoritmů srovnány mezi sebou a pro jednotlivá kritéria jsou doporučeny vhodné algoritmy pro výstavbu stromu. Na konci práce je navrhnuto řešení pro pilotní kampaň zákazníka a výsledný přínos rozhodovacích stromů je kvantifikován.

Abstract:

A decision tree is one of many classification methods used to solve problems in modern analysis. Some of the decision tree algorithms were used as possible methods to solve a problem for a customer coming from the restaurant business. The thesis gives a detailed description of the problem, presenting classification methods that can be used to solve the problem, including the decision trees. A computational algorithm is provided for every suitable solution, with algorithm characteristics applied to the problem using IBM SPSS Statistics 20. All algorithm outputs have then been evaluated using a defined set of criteria (interpretation, classification, risks, and return of investment) assessing the successfulness of the solution. A comparison of algorithm results is provided, recommending algorithms suitable to build a decision tree for every criterion. The final part of the thesis proposes a solution for the customer’s pilot campaign and quantifies the benefits of the decision trees.
