Expectations and Motivations of Baby Boomers, X, Y, Z for Working in a Small Business

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je pochopit specifika jednotlivých generací, stanovit případné rozdíly, zjistit jejich očekávání od zaměstnavatelů a především od malých podniků. Na základě autorova vlastního výzkumu, zjistit, jaká je ochota jednotlivých generací pracovat v malém podniku, jaké překážky k tomu případně mají a co zařazují mezi výhody práce pro tyto menší společnosti. Na základě zjištěných dat navrhnout doporučení pro vlastníky, či vedoucí pracovníky v malých podnicích. Teoretická část se zabývá popisem jednotlivých generací a jejich specifik a rešerší literatury přibližuje personální činnost v malých podnicích. Praktická část nejprve představuje metodologii, ve které jsou shrnuty vybrané metody diplomové práce. Praktická část pak shrnuje výsledky výzkumu, pomocí nějž došlo v práci k poznání, že jednotlivé generace vykazují rozdílné potřeby a očekávání při hledání zaměstnání. Zatímco baby boomers a generace X ocení zaměstnavatele, který si jich bude vážit a umožní jim mít flexibilní pracovní dobu, generace Y hledá u zaměstnavatele především možnost se rozvíjet a přejímat zkušenosti od starších kolegů či vedoucích. Generace Z ocení také finanční ohodnocení a možnost se rozvíjet a získávat nové zkušenosti a znalosti. Na základě těchto zjištění byly navrženy doporučení, jak generace zaujmout a následně si je udržet.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to find out, based on the results of our own research, what the willingness of each generation to work in a small business is and what barriers they may have. The work also includes proposing recommendations for owners or managers in small businesses. The theoretical part deals with the description of each generation and their specifics and the literature search presents the HR activities in small businesses. The practical part first presents the methodology, which summarizes the selected methods of the thesis. The practical part then summarises the results of the research, through which the thesis has come to the realisation that different generations show different needs and expectations when seeking employment. While baby boomers and Generation X appreciate an employer who values them and allows them to have flexible working hours, Generation Y is primarily looking for an opportunity to develop and to gain experience from older colleagues or managers. Generation Z also values financial reward and the opportunity to develop and gain new experience and knowledge. Based on these findings, recommendations were proposed to attract and then retain the generation.
