Mobbing in Healthcare

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématem "Mobbing ve zdravotnictví". Jejím cílem je zjistit znalost pojmu mobbing a jeho výskyt v souvislosti s délkou praxe, typem oddělení a vzděláním. V teoretické části práce jsou vysvětleny základní pojmy související s mobbingem a podrobně jsou popsány další formy šikany a právní úprava v České republice. V metodice byl použit kvantitativní přístup, a to metoda dotazníkového šetření. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 251 nelékařských zdravotnických pracovníků pracujících na jednotkách intenzivní péče a standardních odděleních. K analýze dat z dotazníkové šetření byly použity statistické testy - test nezávislosti, modifikovaný Fisherův exaktní test a test relativní četnosti. Z výsledků vyplývá, že respondenti pojem mobbing znají a na svém pracovišti se s ním setkali. Pomocí statistických testů se nám nepodařilo prokázat statisticky významnou závislost mezi výskytem mobbingu a délkou praxe, typem pracoviště ani vzděláním respondentů. Další data získaná výzkumným šetřením naznačují, že významná část případů nahlášeného mobbingu není řádně prošetřena vedením pracoviště, naopak někdy je dokonce ze strany vedení podporován mobber. Diplomová práce ukázala, že mobbing je velmi častým jevem vyskytujícím se ve zdravotnictví a že není vázán na konkrétní faktory, jako jsou vzdělání, délka praxe nebo typ pracoviště. Nedostatečné řešení tohoto problému ze strany vedení pracoviště hraje klíčovou roli, která umožňuje mobbingu přetrvávat.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the topic "Mobbing in Healthcare". The thesis aims to find out the knowledge of the term mobbing and the prevalence of mobbing in the workplace of non-medical healthcare workers in relation to the length of experience, type of ward and education. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the basic concepts related to mobbing and describes other forms of bullying and legislation in the Czech Republic in detail. A quantitative approach, the questionnaire survey method, was used in the methodology. The research population consisted of 251 non-medical healthcare workers working in intensive care units and standard wards. Statistical tests - test of independence, modified Fisher's exact test and relative frequency test were used to analyse the questionnaire survey data. The results indicate that the respondents are familiar with the term mobbing and have experienced mobbing in their workplace. Statistic tests do not demonstrate a statistically significant relationship between the prevalence of mobbing and the length of experience, type of workplace or education of the respondents. Other data obtained from the questionnaire survey suggest that a significant proportion of reported cases of mobbing are not properly investigated by workplace management or that in some cases, mobbing may be encouraged by management. The thesis has shown that mobbing is a very common phenomenon that occurs in the healthcare sector and is not linked to specific factors such as education, length of experience or type of workplace. The lack of addressing this problem by workplace management plays a key role in permitting the continuation of mobbing within the workplace.
