Meaning of life and prosocial tendency of personality

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním vztahu, který by se podle našeho předpokladu měl vyskytovat mezi pocity smyslu života a prosociální tendencí osobnosti. Teoretická část se opírá o studium relevantních zdrojů této problematiky a zkoumá obě zmíněné oblasti osobnosti z psychologického pohledu. Cílem výzkumné práce je ověřit předpokládanou existenci vztahu mezi pocity smyslu života a prosociální tendencí osobnosti u lidí v důchodovém věku, a to při zohlednění jiných proměnných. Výzkumný soubor byl sestaven z 378 respondentů, kteří v době výzkumu studovali na univerzitách třetího věku v České republice. V rámci výzkumu byla využita baterie dotazníků, která obsahovala Dotazník životní smysluplnosti (LPQ), Sebeposuzovací škálu altruismu (SRA) a byla doplněna otázkami zjišťujícími sociodemografické údaje respondentů. Existence vztahu mezi pocity smyslu života a prosociální tendencí osobnosti byla v této výzkumné práci potvrzena. Mezi smyslem života a jinými proměnnými, tj. pohlavím, věkem a úrovní vzdělání, nebyl potvrzen statisticky signifikantní vztah. Při zkoumání vztahů mezi prosociální tendencí osobnosti a jinými proměnnými jsme zjistili statisticky signifikantní vztah pouze u proměnné pohlaví a proměnné úroveň vzdělání. Během zkoumání vztahu mezi smyslem života a prosociální tendencí osobnosti z hlediska pohlaví jsme zjistili statisticky signifikantní vztah pouze u mužů, nikoliv u žen.

Abstract:

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the study of the relationship that, according to our assumption, should occur between feelings of meaning in life and prosocial tendencies of the personality. The theoretical part is based on the study of relevant sources of this issue and examines both areas of personality from a psychological perspective. The research aims to verify the presumed existence of a relationship between feelings of meaning and prosocial tendencies of personality in people of retirement age, taking into account other variables. The research group was composed of 378 respondents who studied at universities of the third age in the Czech Republic at the time of the research. The research used a battery of questionnaires containing The Life Purpose Questionnaire (LPQ), Self-Report Altruism Scale (SRA) and was supplemented by questions finding out the socio-demographic data of the respondents. The existence of a relationship between the meaning in life and the prosocial tendencies of the personality was confirmed in this research work. No statistically significant relationship was confirmed between the meaning of life and others variables, i.e. gender, age, and level of education. When examining the relationship between prosocial tendencies of personality and other variables, we found a statistically significant relationship only for gender variable and level of education variable. While examining the relationship between the meaning of life and the prosocial tendencies of personality in terms of gender, we found a statistically significant relationship only in men, not in women.
