Family Correspondence - Language Probes

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce navazuje na výzkumy soukromé korespondence prováděné v ÚČJ FFMU a zabývá se specifickým druhem soukromé korespondence – korespondencí rodinnou. Materiál byl čerpán z KSKdopisy. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. V teoretické části je charakterizován epistolární styl a soukromý dopis, dále jsou tu shrnuta teoretická východiska, o která se práce opírá: teorie mluvních aktů, zdvořilostní normy v komunikaci, genderové rozdíly v komunikaci a sociologické vymezení rodiny a jejích funkcí. Analytická část obsahuje výsledky tří jazykových sond. První z nich se zaměřuje na kompoziční strukturu rodinného dopisu a na náplň jeho jednotlivých částí. Druhá sonda zkoumá hláskoslovné, morfologické, lexikální, syntaktické a ortografické rysy komunikátů. Třetí pak mapuje komunikační (ilokuční) funkce v rodinné korespondenci. Do analyzické části práce jsou navíc zařazeny výsledky ankety týkající se využívání klasické korespondence a jiných komunikačních prostředků a také shrnutí generových rozdílů zjištěných při analýze rodinné korespondence.

Abstract:

This Master’s thesis builds on the previous research of private correspondence, which was carried out by the Department of Czech at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, and focuses on a specific kind of private correspondence: family correspondence. The material for analyses comes from the Corpus of private correspondence. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, epistolary style and private letter are characterized. Then the theoretical ground on which the thesis is based is summed up, namely speech acts theory, politeness in communication, gender differences in communication and sociological characteristic of a family and its functions. The analytical part comprises results of three language probes. The first probe focuses on compositional structure of family letters and on the content of their individual parts. The second probe deals with phonetic, morphological, lexical, syntactic and orthographic features of the analyzed texts. The third probe investigates communication (illocutionary) functions of family correspondence. In addition, the results of a survey concerning classic correspondence and other means of communication are presented here. At the very end, gender differences in communication discovered during the analyses are summarized.
