Medial reflection of the Fukushima disaster: geographic context of the nuclear energetics in selected countries of Central Europe

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnotit, jakým způsobem fukušimská katastrofa (tj. kolaps jaderné elektrárny Fukušima v Japonsku) ovlivnila vnímání a diskusi o jaderné energetice ve střední Evropě. Jako prostředek k určení hlavních posunů v tematickém zaměření a souhrnném diskursu týkajícího se jaderné energetiky bude využita obsahová a doplňkově též kritická diskursivní analýza Hospodářských novin, jakožto jednoho z nosných informačních tiskových titulů celostátního dosahu. Specifickým cílem této analýzy bude zhodnocení frekvence témat a kontextů, v nichž se problematika jaderné energetiky ve sledovaném tisku objevila. Výsledky analýzy budou interpretovány s důrazem na geografii energetiky ve sledovaném prostoru a jeho globálním kontextu. V diskusi bude též věnována pozornost možnostem a limitům aplikace analýzy mediálních titulů v geografickém výzkumu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate how the Fukushima disaster (i.e. The collapse of the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan) influenced the perception of a debate about nuclear power in Central Europe. As a means of determining major shifts in thematic focus and the general discourse concerning nuclear energy the content and critical discourse analysis will be used of the economic newspaper as one of the supporting information printed titles nationwide coverage. The specific objective of this analysis is the evaluation of the frequency of themes and contexts in which issues of nuclear energy in the newspapers appeared. The analysis results are interpreted with emphasis on geography of energy and in its global context. The attention will also be paid to the discussion of possibilities and limits of application of analysis of media titles in geographical research.
