The image of Latin America in the essays of Carlos Fuentes

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the views and opinions of Carlos Fuentes on Latin America and its identity. The theoretical part engages in a definition of various terms, as well as the author, his work, characterizes the essay as a literary genre and its development in the Latin American context. To be able to explain the problem of Latin American identity, the practical part of the thesis analyzes a book called The Buried Mirror. Based on its reading, it focuses, for example, on the important events in the history of Spain, on culture, art and the reflection of Mexican identity.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá pohledem a názory Carlose Fuentese na Latinskou Ameriku a její identitu. V teoretické části se věnuje vymezení nejrůznějších pojmů, dále autorovi, jeho dílu, charakterizuje esejistický literární žánr a jeho vývoj v latinskoamerickém kontextu. Abychom byli schopni vysvětlit problém identity v Latinské Americe, praktická část se zaměřuje na analýzu knihy Pohřbené zrcadlo. Na základě její četby se soustředí například na důležité momenty v historii Španělska, kulturu, umění a projekci mexické identity.
