The relationship of the intact individual to his/her sibling with Down syndrome

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje intaktním jedincům, kteří mají sourozence s Downovým syndromem. Cílem bakalářské práce byla analýza sourozeneckých vztahů v rodině s dítětem s Downovým syndromem z pohledu intaktního jedince. Tato práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol, z toho první dvě jsou teoretické a třetí kapitola je praktická. V první kapitole je popsána definice Downova syndromu, etiologie a historie. Dále jsou popsány všechny tři formy Downova syndromu a prenatální diagnostika, která se aktuálně využívá v lékařství. Ve třetí části je popsána anatomie a fyziognomie Downova syndromu. Druhá kapitola pojednává o rodině. Nejprve o rodině obecně a o některých jejích funkcích, poté o rodině s dítětem s postižením. Konec druhé kapitoly popisuje vztahy mezi sourozenci, dále se věnuje vztahům sourozenců, kde má jeden ze sourozenců postižení, následně vztahům sourozenců, kde má jeden Downův syndrom. Praktická část se nejprve věnuje cílům práce a poté metodice výzkumného šetření. Následuje analýza dat získaných z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Rozhovory byly provedeny s pěti intaktními sourozenci. Z výsledků výzkumného šetření vyplynulo, že vztah intaktní jedinci vnímají jako kladný a bezkonfliktní a tento vztah se neustále vyvíjí.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with intact individuals who have siblings with Down’s syndrome. The goal of the thesis was to analyze relationships between siblings from the point of view of the intact individual in family where the child with Down’s syndrome is. This thesis is divided into three chapters. The first and the second chapters are theoretical, and the third chapter is practical. In the first one there is Down’s syndrome definition, its etiology and history. Next there is a description of all types of Down’s syndrome and prenatal diagnostic that is applied in medicine. In the third part there is anatomy and physiognomy of Down’s syndrome. Second chapter deals with family. At first there is general information about family and about some function of family, after that about family with the child with disability. The end of this chapter describes relationships between siblings, then it is focused on the sibling’s relationships when one of the siblings has disability and after that on the sibling’s relationships when one of the siblings has Down’s syndrome. In the practical part there are described goals of the thesis and methodology of the research survey. Next there are analyzed information from semi-structured interviews. These interviews were done with five intact individuals. The results of this research are that intact individuals perceive relationships positively and conflict-free and these relationships are constantly developing.
