Modelling environmental pollution in forests with the inclusion of uncertainties

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je provést shrnutí současného stavu poznání v modelování znečištění životního prostředí v lesích, a to na experimentálním povodí Červík v Moravskoslezských Beskydech, kde byla poskytnuta reálná data Výzkumným ústavem lesního hospodářství a myslivosti (VULHM). Dalším cílem bylo vybrat vhodný matematický model řešící tento problém a implementovat ho v softwaru Maple. Posledním cílem je provést na vybraném modelu analýzu neurčitostí. V první části práce jsou popsány procesy podílející se na znečištění lesů, a protože acidifikace je nejzávažnější problém půd způsobený lidskou činností, práce se dále zabývá pouze acidifikací. Další část práce popisuje použitou metodiku, tedy čtyři matematické modely MAGIC, VSD, SMART a SAFE, postup při kalibraci modelů a nakonec použité metody v analýze neurčitostí. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty výsledky jednotlivých metod. Z výsledků modelování lze celkově říci, že na povodí Červík se stav půdy v posledních letech zlepšoval a k mírnému zlepšování by mělo docházet i nadále. Stále je však předpokládán pokles množství bazických kationtů v půdě, které mohou neutralizovat kyseliny. Časem by tedy mohlo dojít k jejich vyčerpání.

Abstract:

The aim of this Master´s thesis is to make a summary of the current state of knowledge in the modeling of environmental pollution in the forests, on an experimental catchment Červík in Moravskoslezské Beskydy. The real data was provided by the Forestry and Game Management Research Institute. Another aim of this thesis was to select a suitable mathematical model which solves this problem and implement this model in the software Maple. The final aim of the study is to make the analysis of the uncertainty on the selected model. In the first part, there are described the processes participating on the pollution of forests, and because the acidification of soils is the most serious problem caused by human activity, this study only deals with acidification. The next part contains a description of used methodology, where are used four mathematical models MAGIC, VSD, SMART and SFAE, the procedure for models calibration and the methods used in the analysis of uncertainty. In the conclusion of this study, there are summarized the results of each method. It could be said, as we know from results, that the soil conditions on catchment Červík has been improved in recent years. There should be a slight improvement in the soil conditions in the future too. But the decrease in the amount of base cations in the soil is still expected. They can neutralized acid, and over time could lead to their exhaustion.
