Impact of Various Types of Castration on the Yield of Corn Seed Grower Stand

Abstract:

Kukuřice je významná plodina, která se využívá zejména k potravinářským a krmným účelům. Další uplatnění nachází ve farmaceutickém a chemickém průmyslu. Výroba hybridního osiva kukuřice je během celé vegetace velmi specifickou a náročnou pěstitelskou činností. Celková organizace množitelského porostu a jednotlivé pracovní operace se neobejdou bez lidských zásahů. Jednou z nejnáročnějších pracovních činností je kastrace mateřských rostlin, při které dochází k odstranění samčího květenství ve všech řádcích mateřských rostlin. Je to ruční práce, která se dá částečně nahradit stroji, ale přesto musí být provedena následná kontrola a zbytky květenství vykastrovány ručně. Při použití strojů dochází k stresovému působení, které je zapříčiněno vyšším úbytek listové plochy a celkovým poškozením rostlin. Při sklizni se tento stres projeví nižším výnosem daného hybridu.

Abstract:

Corn is an important crop used especially as food and fodder. It is also utilized in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. The production of hybrid seed corn is a very specific and demanding agricultural work during all vegetation period. The overall organization of the seed grower stand and individual work operations require human interventions. One of the most difficult tasks is the castration of parent plants, during which male inflorescence is eliminated in all rows of parent plants. It is manual work that could be partly done by machines, but a subsequent inspection is needed and the remains of inflorescence have to be castrated manually. The use of machines presents stress for plants, as they lose some leaf area and generally get harmed. As a result, the harvest then brings lower yields of the particular hybrid.
