The bachelor´s thesis deals with the ideas of English political economist Robert Torrens (1780-1864) concerning international trade and the colonial system of the United Kingdom. The analysis of Torrens’ theoretical positions is preceded by an introduction to contemporary intellectual debates, the economic situation and the state of foreign trade of the United Kingdom.
