Enabling WebAuthn Standard in SP/IdP Proxy SATOSA

Abstract:

Informační bezpečnost je stále více důležitá vzhledem k tomu, že většina služeb je nyní poskytována přes internet. Většina dat se digitalizuje a následkem je vyšší riziko bezpečnostních hrozeb. Jeden z procesů, který musí být dobře zabezpečen, je autentizace uživatelů. Ta je velmi důležitá, protože pokud se útočníkovi povede ji obejít, může získat přístup k citlivým datům. Nejběžnější způsob autentizace je použití hesla, ale protože tento způsob není dostatečně bezpečný, je třeba jiné řešení, kterým je vícefaktorová autentizace. Výsledkem této bakalářské práce je samostatný modul, který zajišťuje vícefaktorovou autentizaci pro SATOSA. V této práci vysvětluji principy SATOSA stejně jako technologii WebAuthn, na které je modul založen. Dále popisuji architekturu modulu, vysvětluji, jak funguje, a představuji způsoby využití.

Abstract:

Security is increasingly more important as most of the services are being provided via the internet. A lot of data is becoming digitalized, and as a consequence, there is a greater danger of security threats. One of the processes that need to be very secure is the authentication of users. The authentication is utterly important because if the attacker gets around it, they can have access to the sensitive data. The most common way of authenticating users is the use of passwords, but this way is not secure enough. The solution to this problem is multi-factor authentication. The result of this bachelor thesis is a standalone module that provides support for multi-factor authentication for SATOSA. In this work, I am explaining the principles of SATOSA proxy as well as the WebAuthn technology on which the module is based. I am bringing insight into the architecture of the module, describing how it works, and presenting the use cases.
