Abstract:

Bakalářská práce The Role of Education in the “Making of an American” pojednává o dějinách vzdělávání ve Spojených státech amerických od počátků jejich prvních veřejných škol, přičemž dává důraz na budování vlasteneckých názorů, tradic a národního uvědomění. Zabývá se také otázkami demokracie a rovných příležitostí, které nahlíží z pohledu jejich provázanosti s americkým školstvím. Dále se práce pokouší najít hlavní cíle, které byly prosazovány v americkém vzdělávání, a poté hledá jejich následky. Jejím cílem je rozpoznat a analyzovat znaky této provázanosti školství s politickými zájmy.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis The Role of Education in the “Making of an American” describes the history of the American education from the beginnings of its first public schools. At the same time it emphasizes the creation of patriotic ideas, traditions and the national consciousness which are interwoven with the field of education. It also deals with the questions of democracy and equality of opportunity. These questions are observed according to their interrelation with the American schooling. It tries to find the main intentions which were promoted in the American education. Then it looks for the consequences of these intentions. The aim of the thesis is to recognize and analyze the signs of the interrelation of the education with the political interests.
