Ethical dilemmas of helping workers in work with dying and bereaved

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo odpovědět na otázku, jak stávající způsob zvládání a reakcí na etická dilemata pomáhajících pracovníků při práci s umírajícími a pozůstalými ovlivňuje péči o umírající a pozůstalé? Svou prací jsem chtěla upozornit, že práce s umírajícími by se neměla zabývat pouze biologickou stránkou člověka, ale i jeho sociálními, psychologickými a spirituálními potřebami a práce s pozůstalými by se měla zaměřit nejen na formální záležitosti, ale také na pomoc v období truchlení. V teoretické části, kde jsem vycházela z dostupné literatury, jsou vymezeny základní pojmy etické dilema, zvládání a reakce na etická dilemata, umírání a smrt, potřeby umírajících a pozůstalých. Odpovědi na výzkumné otázky byly získány kvalitativní strategií technikou polostandardizovaného rozhovoru. Za výběrový soubor bylo zvoleno pět pracovníků respitní péče ve vybraném zařízení dle stanovených kritérií. Na základě analýzy jejich odpovědí byla určena nejčastější dilemata z pohledu respondentek, která se při zvládání a reakcí na ně projevila při práci s umírajícími klienty a pozůstalými.

Abstract:

The objective of the bachelor thesis was to find the answer to question “How the current way of coping and responding to ethical dilemmas of helping workers in work with dying and bereaved impact on care for dying and bereaved?” In my thesis I aim to emphasize that working with dying clients should not only aim on biological needs, but also their social, psychological and spiritual needs and the work with bereaved should not aim only n formal activities, but also help in the process of mourning. In the theoretical part, relying on available literature, I have described basic terms such as ethical dilemmas, coping and responding to ethical dilemmas, dying and death and needs of dying and mourning. The answers to research question were acquired with the aid of qualitative strategic technique of semi-standardized interviews. Selected for the survey sample were five workers of the respite care in selected facility in accordance to chosen criteria. Analysis of their responses determined the most common dilemmas from the point of view of respondents ad the coping and responding to this dilemmas affected the care for dying and bereaved.
