Malinalli / la Malinche: her name and image. About the evolution of the portrait of Malinalli / la Malinche in literary discourse through the study of Mexican drama of the 70’s

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the development of portrayal of the historical figure Malinalli in the literary discourse. The first part examines the etymological development of proper names of this historical figure. The results of this part of the thesis are used as an instrument in the identification of the main standpoints the individual authors take, at the moment when they mention Malinalli in their works. The second part is devoted to the study of testimonies of Spanish and Indian chroniclers, Malinalli's contemporaries that have been preserved in written and graphical documents (codices). The third part deals with the study of Malinalli's form in Mexican drama in the second half of the 20th century, with the special emphasis on the situation in the 70s. The main attention is focused on the comparative analysis of selected dramas of contemporary Mexican playwrights: Corona de fuego from Rodolfo Usigli, La Leña está verde (La Malinche) from Celestino Gorostiza, El eterno femenino from Rosario Castellanos and Malinche Show from Willebaldo López.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vývojem zobrazování historické postavy Malinalli v literárním diskursu. V první části se zkoumá etymologický vývoj vlastních jmen této historické postavy. Výsledky z této části diplomové práce jsou využity jako instrument při identifikaci hlavních hledisek, které jednotliví autoři zaujímají v momentě, kdy se o Malinalli zmiňují ve svých dílech. Druhá část je věnována studiu výpovědi španělských a indiánských kronikářů, současníků Malinalli, které se dochovaly v písemných a grafických dokumentech (kodexech). Třetí část se zabývá studiem podoby Malinalli v mexické dramatické tvorbě druhé poloviny 20. století se speciálním zaměřením na situaci v 70. letech. Hlavní pozornost je věnována komparativní analýze vybraných dramatických textů současných mexických dramatiků: Corona de fuego od Rodolfa Usigliho, La leña está verde (La Malinche) od Celestina Gorostizy, El eterno femenino od Rosarie Castellanos a Malinche Show od Willebalda Lópeze.
