Personal Advertisements on the Internet: Sociolinguistic and Discourse Analysis

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the language of personal advertisements on the Internet. The thesis is based on analysis of one hundred, 50 women and 50 men, online personal advertisements. The practical part is divided into two main chapters. The first chapter focuses on the language of personal advertisements based on gender distinctiveness. The second chapter of the practical part deals with Netspeak in online dating and its deviations from a norm, mainly in a graphological and a lexical level. Finally, the analysis results in cognition of Netspeak as a new medium, partly written, partly spoken.
