Clustering - specific behaviour of bats during hibernation

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo zpracovat literární zdroje o shlukování během hibernace a o jejím významu pro netopýry a shrnout informace vztahující se k této problematice. Rešeršní část je rozdělena do tří částí. První část se zabývá hibernací, druhá část je věnována zimní aktivitě netopýrů a třetí část se zabývá shlukováním a jaký význam má toto chování pro netopýry. Dalším cílem této práce bylo zpracování dat z pilotního sledování chování jedinců Myotis myotis ve shluku. Sledování probíhalo v Kateřinské jeskyni, během pozdní hibernace od 28. března do 30. dubna. Shluk se nacházel v části zvané Koridor. Početnost shluku se zvětšovala do půlky dubna a poté se shluk začal rozpadat. Chování netopýrů ve shluku bylo rozděleno do 6 kategorií: číštění, páření, agrese, přílet, odlet a protahání se. Ve shluku bylo velice často pozorováno čištění. Agrese mezi netopýry se objevovla spíše na začátku sledovaného období, stejně jako páření. Statisticky významně se prokázal vliv okolní teploty na chování netopýrů ve shluku během pozdní fáze hibernace. Neprokázal se však vliv východu a západu slunce na aktivitu netopýrů během hibernace.

Abstract:

The aim of this Bachelor’s thesis was to write up literature about clustering behaviour in winter and its importance for the bats and summarizes information related to problem. Literature part is divided into three parts. The first one is about hibernation, second is about winter activity of bats during hibernation a third is about clustering behaviour Second aim of this thesis was to proces the data from pilot monitoring of Myotis myotis in cluster. Monitoring took place in Kateřinská jeskyně, during late hibernation from 28 March to 30 April. Cluster was located in the area called Corridor. Abundance of the cluster grew larger to mid April and then the cluster began fall apart. Behaviour of bats in the cluster was divided into 6 categories: Cleaning, mating, agression, arrival, departure and stretch. In the cluster was very often seen cleaning. Aggression between bats appear rather at the beginning of the reporting period, as well as mating. Statistically significant effect on the behaviour of bats in the cluster had ambient temperature. Sunrise and sunset didn't have statistically significant effect on the activity of bats during hibernation.
