Freezing of aqueous solutions – quantification of freezing induced increase in concentration

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá zkoumáním změn lokální koncentrace, ke které dochází v průběhu mrazení vodných roztoků methylenové modře. Teoretická část se zabývá základními pojmy, které souvisí s touto tématikou a zároveň zkoumá možnosti, kde by se znalosti o lokálních změnách koncentrace během mrazení mohli uplatit jak v průmyslu, tak ve vědě. Praktická část pak pojednává o metodě zisku hodnot koncentrace z vodného roztoku pomocí extrahování RGB a HSV spekter z fotografií. Tato metoda umožňuje sledovat mrznoucí roztok a saturovanou vrstvu, která při mrznutí vzniká, při různých rychlostech mrazení. Poznatky z této práce pomohou poodhalit chování rozpuštěných látek ve vodných roztocích při jejich mrznutí. Práce je taktéž prvním krokem při aplikaci této metody na zamrznuté roztoky.

Abstract:

This work deals with the investigation of changes in local concentration that occur during the freezing of aqueous solutions of methylene blue. The theoretical part deals with the basic concepts related to this topic and also examines the possibilities where knowledge about local changes in concentration during freezing could be applied in both industry and science. The practical part then deals with the method of obtaining concentration values from aqueous solution by extracting RGB and HSV spectra from photographs. This method makes it possible to monitor the freezing solution and the saturated layer formed during freezing at different freezing rates. The findings from this work will help to reveal the behavior of dissolved substances in aqueous solutions when they freeze. The work is also the first step in applying this method to frozen solutions.
