Mental Hygiene as a Necessary Part of Life of a General Nurse

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, zda všeobecné sestry mají povědomí o duševní hygieně a zda ji využívají ve svém životě. Jako dílčí cíle jsme zvolili zjistit u všeobecných sester znalost pojmu duševní hygiena, míru psychické zátěže, využívané metody ke snížení psychického napětí a úroveň vedení životosprávy dle principů duševní hygieny. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor zahrnoval 128 všeobecných sester chirurgických a interních oddělení. Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno (únor 2018) prostřednictvím standardizovaného Meisterova dotazníku, doplněného o nestandardizované otázky. Výsledky: Průzkumným šetřením bylo zjištěno, že více než třetina respondentů dokázala definovat pojem duševní hygiena. Při ověřování životosprávy dle principů duševní hygieny se ukázalo, že všeobecné sestry nejvíce pečují o mezilidské vtahy a osobní zájmy. Negativněji ovšem reagovaly na zásady týkající se stravy, cvičení a spánku. Prostřednictvím Meisterova dotazníku bylo zjištěno, že respondenti podléhají psychické zátěži, u které není pravděpodobné ovlivnění zdraví, subjektivního stavu a výkonnosti. Ke snížení psychického napětí bylo nejvíce využíváno povídání si s blízkou osobou, sportu a fyzické aktivity. Závěr: Duševní hygiena je nezbytnou složkou života všeobecné sestry, což je náročná profese, často čelící psychické i fyzické zátěži. Dodržování zásad a pravidel duševní hygieny napomáhá k ochraně a udržení duševního zdraví, a získání odolnosti vůči zátěži. Životosprávu dle těchto principů, ať už vědomou nebo nevědomou, považujeme za stěžejní.

Abstract:

Goal: The goal of this bachelor's thesis was to research if general nurses are aware of mental hygiene and if they apply it in their lives. As secondary goals we've set to research if general nurses are familiar with the term mental hygiene, their level of mental workload, what methods do they use to lower the mental tension and how well are they following the mental hygiene principles in their lives. Method: The research sample included 128 general nurses from surgical and internal departments. The questionnaire was realized (February 2018) using the standardized Meister questionnaire, amended with non-standardized questions. Results: The research concluded that more than a third of respondents was able to define the term mental hygiene. Verifying the lifestyle against the mental hygiene principles turned out that general nurses tend to interpersonal relationships and personal interests the most. There were more negative reactions towards healthy eating principles, exercises and sleep. The Meister questionnaire uncovered that respondents were under mental workload that does not have probable effects on health, subjective state and performance. Most common method to reduce mental tension was talking to a close person, sport and other physical activities. Conclusion: Mental hygiene is a necessary part of life of general nurse, which is a demanding profession very often facing both psychological and physical stress. Following the principles of mental hygiene helps protect and keep the mental health and building resistance against stress. Lifestyle following these principles, be it deliberate or not, is considered crucial.
