Intergenerational transmission and intergenerational similarity of autonomous and non-autonomous orientations

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce se zabývá mezigeneračním přenosem a mezigenerační podobností v kauzálních orientacích a rolí pozitivní rodičovské podpory v tomto přenosu. Studie vycházela z předpokladu, že mezigenerační přenos kauzálních orientací je významně ovlivněn stylem rodičovské výchovy a že tento přenos souvisí s přenosem pozitivní charakteristiky - smyslu v životě. Doplňkovým cílem bylo porovnat mezigenerační podobnost v kauzálních orientacích s vnímanou podobností v kauzálních orientacích. Rovněž jsme se zabývali vnímanou podobností v kauzálních orientacích a její spojitostí s pozitivní rodičovskou podporou. Soubor tvořilo 90 respondentů, z toho bylo 45 dospělých dětí (50 %) a 45 rodičů (50 %). Respondenti byli porovnáváni v párech stejného pohlaví: otcové se syny a matky s dcerami. Použili jsme metody The General Causality Orientations Scale (GCOS), The Perception of Parents Scale (POPS), Škálu životní smysluplnosti (ŠŽZ) a Dotazník vnímané mezigenerační podobnosti (DVMP). Výsledky ukazují, že rodiče a děti si jsou v kauzálních orientacích málo podobní, ale navzájem se v této oblasti jako podobní vnímají. Pozitivní rodičovská podpora pozitivně silně souvisela s oblastí vnímané podobnosti v kauzálních orientacích, ale ne s podobností zjištěnou metodou GCOS. Přestože byla nalezena silná souvislost mezi úrovní smyslu života rodičů a dětí, neprokázali jsme spojitost smyslu života s mezigenerační podobností v kauzálních orientacích. Hlavním přínosem studie bylo zjištění, že pozitivní rodičovská podpora úzce souvisela s tím, do jaké míry dospělé děti vnímaly podobnost s rodičem, méně však s naměřenou podobností v této charakteristice.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the intergenerational transmission and intergenerational similarity of causality orientations and the role of parental support in this process. The study was based on the assumption that the intergenerational transmission of causal orientations is significantly influcenced by the parenting style, and that this transmission is related to the transmission of the positive characteristics – meaning in life. The additional aim was to compare the intergenerational similarity of causal orientations with perceived similarity in causal orientations. We also examined the perceived similarity in causal orientation and its associations with the positive parental support. Our sample consists of 90 respondents, of whom 45 (50 %) were children and 45 (50 %) were parents. Respondents were compared in same-sex pairs: fathers with sons, and mothers with daughters. We used The General Causality Orientations Scale (GCOS), The Perception of Parents Scale (POPS), The Meaning in Life Scale (ŠŽZ) and The Questionnaire of Perceived Intergenerational Similarity (DVMP). The results showed that parents and children were less similar in causal orientations, but perceived each other in a similar way. Positive parental support was positively related to the area of perceived similarity in causal orientations, but not to the similarity found by GCOS. Although a strong correlation has been found between the meaning in life of parents and children, we have not shown the link between the meaning in life and the intergenerational similarity in causal orientations. The main benefit of the study was the finding that positive parental support was closely related to the extent to which adult children perceived parental similarity, but less with the measured similarity in this characteristic.
