Manipulation of Adolescents by their Parents during Divorce. Retrospect from University Students.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá manipulativním chováním rozvádějících se rodičů a jeho vlivu na děti v období adolescence. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části jsou popsána témata jako například rodina a její základní funkce. Dále je popsána adolescence. V této kapitole se práce věnuje tělesnému, kognitivnímu, sociálnímu a emocionálnímu vývoji adolescenta. Práce popisuje rozvod, jeho příčiny a proces vyrovnávání se s ním. Uvedené jsou možnosti porozvodové péče a možné dopady rozvodu na adolescenta. Dále je zmíněn i syndrom zavrženého rodiče. Poslední kapitola teoretické části je věnována manipulaci. Praktická část obsahuje rozhovory s mladými děvčaty, které retrospektivně popisují své zkušenosti a prožívání v období rozvodu rodičů. Byl využit kvalitativní výzkum. Jako metoda byla zvolena tematická analýza. Cílem této práce bylo popsat manipulativní strategie rozvádějících se rodičů vůči svým dětem, popsat možné příčiny tohoto chování a možné důsledky tohoto chování na psychiku dospívajících. Výzkum ukázal, že z této životní zkušenosti vzešly rady, které by respondentky předaly adolescentům v obdobné situaci. Nejčastější rady byly vyhledání odborné pomoci, dbát na sebe samotného, nastavit si své hranice a také důraz na důležitost správné a důkladné komunikace v rodině. Dále se ukázalo, že proces vyrovnávání se s manipulativním chováním rodičů je složitý a u některých respondentek nepřišlo vyrovnání dodnes.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the manipulative behavior of divorcing parents and its impact on children during adolescence. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part describes topics such as the family and its basic functions. Furthermore, adolescence is described. In this chapter, the thesis focuses on the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of adolescents. The thesis describes divorce, its causes, and the process of coping with it. Post-divorce care options and possible impacts of divorce on adolescents are also mentioned. The concept of the rejected parent syndrome is also discussed. The last chapter of the theoretical part is dedicated to manipulation. The practical part includes interviews with young girls who retrospectively describe their experiences during their parents' divorce. Qualitative research was utilized, and thematic analysis was chosen as the method. The aim of this thesis was to describe manipulative strategies of divorcing parents towards their children, identify possible causes of this behavior, and explore its potential consequences on the psyche of adolescents. The research revealed that advice emerged from these life experiences, which the respondents would pass on to adolescents in a similar situation. The most common advice included seeking professional help, taking care of oneself, setting boundaries, and emphasizing the importance of proper and thorough communication within the family. Furthermore, it was shown that the process of coping with manipulative parental behavior is complex, and for some respondents, reconciliation has not yet occurred.
