Captured by the Light: the use of laser in Czech scenography and art in the 20th century

Abstract:

Bakalářská se věnuje tématu počátků českého laserového umění. Práce se zaměřuje na laser jako nástroj umělecké exprese ve druhé polovině dvacátého století a popisuje tvorbu hlavních protagonistů laserového umění u nás. První část práce definuje světlo a přístupy k fenoménu světla. Popisuje fyzikální podstatu světla spolu s významem tohoto jevu ve filozofii a umění. Druhá část bakalářské práce je věnována vývoji samotné technologie laseru, popisuje počátky laserového umění ve Spojených státech a věnuje se dílu Jana Doubka, který jako první představil laser jako umělecký nástroj a scénografii Josefa Svobody, který využil laser v rámci svého oboru jako první na světě.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis is dedicated to the topic of czech laser art. Thesis deals with the usage of laser as an instrument of artistic expression during the second half of the twentieth century. And describes the work of the significant protagonists in Czechoslovakia. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the phenomenon of light and its meaning in different areas of human knowledge. It deals with the physical substance of light as well as its meaning in philosophy and art. The second part defines the beginning of laser art in the United states and describes the work of Jan Doubek, who introduced laser to art in Czechoslovakia and Josef Svoboda, the first scenographer in the world to use laser in his field.
