Specifics of interpretation concertant compositions for "low" French horn

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce pojednává o koncertních skladbách pro hluboký lesní roh. Tento téměř neznámý repertoár se v posledních letech značně rozšířil a doplnil tak hornovou literaturu. Výzkum také ukázal, že již před vznikem notoricky známé Bagatelle für tiefes Horn und Klavier (cca 1949) Hermanna Neulinga bylo zkomponováno několik barokních nebo klasicistních koncertů pro tzv. druhý lesní roh. Práce nabízí katalog těchto skladeb s popisem a notovými ukázkami jednotlivých pasáží s popisem specifik jejich interpretace. Ten je dělen do tří proporčně různě obsáhlých celků, jež uvádějí díla pro sólový lesní roh, s doprovodem a komorní tvorbu. Předcházejí jim dva oddíly, které shrnují základní informace o tématu, historickém kontextu, stavu bádání a použité metodologii. V poznámkovém aparátu jsou uvedeny bibliografické údaje, odkazy na signatury, doplňkové informace a překlady cizojazyčných citátů. Cílem práce je nabídnout studentům a pedagogům hry na lesní roh ucelený přehled o současném stavu této literatury a nabídnout možnost rozšířit svůj repertoár koncertní, ale předkládá také skladby instruktivní, které lze využít k osvojení hry v nízkém rejstříku nástroje, zvládnutí čtení basového klíče a vycvičení intervalových skoků do hluboké polohy. Každé skladbě předchází krátký životopis autora a výčet jeho děl. Následují informace o audiovizuálním záznamu, kde lze noty získat, a interpretační analýza jednotlivých segmentů, která je zakončena krátkým závěrem, jenž obsahuje informace o délce díla, krajním rozsahu nástroje, speciálních technikách hry, výskytu a střídání houslového či basového klíče a doporučení, pro jaký účel a interpreta je vhodná z pohledu interpretační náročnosti v kontextu českého hudebního školství. To je děleno na základní umělecké školy, konzervatoře a vysoké školy. Cílem této práce bylo nashromáždění maximálního počtu skladeb pro hluboký lesní roh, jejich analýza a vytvoření katalogu s notovými ukázkami nejobtížnějších pasáží. Podařilo se zmapovat českou i světovou tvorbu a nashromáždit celkem 37 skladeb samostatných či cyklických.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with concert compositions for low French horn. This almost unknown repertoire has expanded considerably in recent years, complementing the horn literature. The research has also shown that even before the creation of Hermann Neuling's well-known Bagatelle für tiefes Horn und Klavier (circa 1949), several Baroque or Classicist concerts were composed for the so-called Second French Horn. The work brings a catalogue of these compositions with a description and music samples of individual passages with a description of the specifics of their interpretation. It is divided into three units of proportionally different size, which present works for solo French horn, with accompaniment and chamber music. They are preceded by two sections, which summarize basic information on the topic, the historical context, the state of research and the methodology used. The note-taking apparatus contains bibliographic data, references to signatures, additional information and translations of foreign language quotations. The aim of the thesis is to offer a comprehensive overview of the current state of this literature to the horn playing students and teachers and offer the opportunity to expand their concert repertoire, it also presents instructive compositions that can be used to master the instrument´s low-key playing, master bass clef reading and training of the interval leaps into a low range. Each composition is preceded by a short biography of the author and a list of their works. This is followed by information on the audio-visual recording of where the notes can be obtained and an interpretive analysis of the individual segments, which concludes with a brief conclusion containing information on the length of the work, extreme range of the instrument, special playing techniques, occurrence and alternation of treble and bass clef and recommendations for what purpose and performer it is suitable from the point of view of interpretive demands in the context of Czech music education. It is divided into elementary art schools, conservatories and colleges. The aim of this work was to collect the maximum number of compositions for the low French horn, their analysis and the creation of a catalogue with musical examples of the most difficult passages. We managed to map Czech and world works and collect a total of 37 individual or cyclical compositions.
