Relationship-anxiety and intimacy in young adults‘ partner relationships

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem vztahové úzkosti a dalšími konstrukty, které hrají v partnerských vztazích významnou roli. Konkrétně jsme se zaměřili na souvislost mezi vztahovou úzkostí a intimitou u mladých dospělých v partnerských vztazích. Cílem práce bylo prozkoumat subjektivní žitou zkušenost mladých dospělých, kteří vztahovou úzkost v romantických vztazích prožívají a objasnit, jak vnímají intimní interakce v těchto vztazích. Práce teoreticky vychází jak z aktuálních poznatků, tak z již zakotvených teorií zabývajících se romantickými vztahy, intimitou a vztahovou úzkostí. V rámci teorie jsou představeny také konstrukty jako porozumění a sebeúcta, které poskytují lepší vhled do problematiky. Praktická část práce se pak kvalitativně věnovala rozhovorům s respondenty, kteří vztahovou úzkost v partnerských vztazích prožívají nebo prožívali. Ke zpracování dat byla použita interpretativní fenomenologická analýza, jejíž výsledky odhalily pět témat: sebeúcta a sebeobětování, hledání ujištění, neopětované potřeby, perzistentní obavy a intimita a sex. V rámci analýzy jednotlivých respondentů poukázaly na vysokou míru individuálnosti v prožívání úzkosti a intimity v partnerských vztazích.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the phenomenon of relationship-based anxiety and other constructs that play a significant role in a partner relationships. Specifically, we focused on the association between relationship anxiety and intimacy in young adults in romantic relationships. The aim of the work was to examine the subjective lived experience of young adults who experience relationship-based anxiety in romantic relationships and to clarify how they perceive intimate interactions in these relationships. Theoretically, the work is based both on current findings and on established theories dealing with romantic relationships, intimacy, and relationship-based anxiety. Within the theory, constructs such as understanding and self-esteem are also introduced, which provided better insight into the issue. The practical part of the work was qualitatively devoted to interviews with respondents who experience or have experienced relationship-based anxiety in partner relationships. An interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to process the data, the results of which revealed five main topics: self-esteem and self-sacrifice, seeking reassurance, unrequited needs, persistent concerns, and intimacy and sex. The analysis of individual respondents pointed to a high degree of individuality in experiencing anxiety and intimacy in partner relationships.
