Comparison of simulation and keyframes animation techniques in animation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na porovnání dvou způsobů tvorby 3D animace. Jejím cílem je ověřit, jestli lze sestavit krátkou animaci za pomoci pouze simulace fyziky nebo jestli se musí použít kombinace metody simulace a klíčových snímků. Čtenář bude nejdříve seznámen s krátkou historií oboru, což pomůže následnému porozumění vzniku obou způsobů animace. Součástí teorie bude i rozbor principu fungování obou metod a následný popis všech fází procesu tvorby animací za pomoci jak klíčových snímků, tak i simulace. Popis animační tvorby bude prokládán praktickými ukázkami, které nastíní možná úskalí při práci s těmito technikami. Praktická část se bude věnovat tvorbě krátké animace pomocí využití postupu a metod popsaných v teoretické části práce. Budou tu představené všechny podniknuté kroky, jimiž bylo dosaženo finálního výstupu. Hlavním přínosem této práce je zhodnocení a porovnání dvou animačních metod a následné poukázání na výhody a komplikace spojené s použitím každé z těchto technik. Čtenář by měl po přečtení dané práce být schopný posoudit, jakou simulační metodu je vhodné použít pro docílení požadovaného výsledku.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis is focused on the comparison of two ways of creating 3D animation. Its goal is to verify whether a short animation can be created using only physically based animation or whether a combination of simulation and keyframes must be used. Firstly, the reader will be introduced to a short history of the field, which will later help with understanding of the origin of both animation methods. Theoretical part will include the analysis of the operational principles of both animation techniques which will be followed by the description of all of the animation process steps using both key images and simulation. The animation process will be represented with practical examples that will outline possible obstacles that may appear while working with these techniques. The practical part will be devoted to the creation of a short-animated video using the procedure and methods described in the theoretical part of the work. All the steps taken to achieve the final output will be presented in this thesis. The main contribution of this work consists in the evaluation and comparison of two animation methods. It will subsequently point out of the advantages and complications associated with the use of each of these techniques. After reading the work, the reader should be able to decide which simulation method is appropriate to use to achieve the desired outcome.
