Restoration of selected mural scenes on the vault of St. Wenceslaus Chapel in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Klokoty

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca prezentuje priebeh reštaurovania vybraných malieb na klenbe južnej kaplnky sv. Václava v kostole Nanebovzatia Panny Márie v Klokotoch. Jedná sa o dva maľované výjavy v štukových rámoch, prvý v západnej časti klenby kaplnky, druhý na víťaznom oblúku pri vstupe do kaplnky smerom k lodi. Konkrétne sa jedná o výjavy s námetmi "Sv. Václav sprevádzaný anjelmi prichádza do snemu ríšskych kniežat" a pašiový výjav "Korunovanie tŕním". Práca obsahuje reštaurátorský prieskum a dokumentáciu s doplnením o obrazovú a grafickú prílohu. Rozšírená je o časť, ktorá sa zaoberá ikonografiou figurálnych výjavov a dohľadávaním grafických či iných predlôh k maľbám a nápisom pod výjavmi, z dôvodu rozsiahlej rekonštrukcie malieb.

Abstract:

The Bachelor's thesis presents the process of restoration of selected paintings on the vault of the South Chapel of Saint Wenceslaus in the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary in Klokoty. There are two scenes painted in stucco frames, the first in the western part of the chapel vault, the second one on the triumphal arch at the entrance to the chapel toward the nave. Specifically, the scenes with the theme of 'Saint Wenceslas accompanied by angels coming to the council of Reich princes" and the passion scene "Crowned with thorns". The work includes restoration survey and documentation with the addition of visual and graphic attachment. It is extended with the part that deals with the iconography of figurative scenes and looking for graphic or other propositions to painted and written subject matter, due to the extensive reconstruction of the paintings.
