Relationships between spirituality, stress-related health risk ans health-related quality of life.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to study the relationship of spirituality, various health-related factors and health-related quality of life. Through the Stress Profile (Nowack, 1999) questionnaire we focus on the specific health-related factors as are stress, health habits, social support network, type A behavior, cognitive hardiness, psychological well-being and coping strategies, and their relationship to overall perception of the physical and mental health and the health related quality of life, measured by the SF-12v2 questionnaire (Ware & Sherbourn, 1992). We also focus on the role of spirituality in the context of health, for this purpose we used the Prague Spirituality Questionnaire (Říčan & Janošová, 2004). The research sample consisted of 208 respondents, from which 75% (N = 156) were women, the age of the group ranged from 20 to 87 years (M = 31, median = 25). The results of the correlation analysis showed statistically significant relationships between the health-related factors and the overall health-related quality of life. The regression analysis pointed out the close relationship between stress, psychological well-being, health habits and cognitive hardiness to overall HRQOL. All these factors also significantly correlated with each other. However, a significant relationship between spirituality and health-related quality of life has not been demonstrated. Spirituality showed the significant correlation with the psychological well-being which was the second strongest predictor of health-related quality of life. The strongest HRQOL predictor was the stress, or precisely, its absence among participants.

Táto práca sa venuje vzťahom spirituality, zdravie ovplyvňujúcich faktorov a kvality života súvisiacou so zdravím. V rámci dotazníka Stress Profile (Nowack, 1999) sa zameriavame na jednotlivé faktory ako sú stres, zdravotné návyky, sociálna podpora okolia, chovanie typu A, kognitívna nezdolnosť, psychická pohoda a zvládacie stratégie vo vzťahu k výslednému hodnoteniu fyzického a psychického zdravotného stavu a s nimi súvisiacou kvalitou života u respondentov, meraného pomocou dotazníka SF-12v2 (Ware & Sherbourn, 1992). Zaujíma nás taktiež rola spirituality v kontexte zdravia, pre tento účel sme vo výskume použili Pražský dotazník spirituality (Říčan & Janošová, 2004). Výskumný súbor pozostával z 208 respondentov, z toho 75% (N = 156) žien, vo veku od 20 do 87 rokov (M = 31, medián = 25). Výsledky korelačnej analýzy preukázali štatisticky významné vzťahy skúmaných faktorov s celkovou kvalitou života súvisiacou so zdravím. Regresná analýza poukázala na tesný vzájomný vzťah stresu, psychickej pohody, zdravotných návykov a kognitívnej nezdolnosti k celkovému HRQOL. Všetky spomínané faktory medzi sebou taktiež významne korelovali. Signifikantný vzťah spirituality s kvalitou života súvisiacou so zdravím však nebol preukázaný. Spiritualita štatisticky významne korelovala so psychickou pohodou, ktorá sa prejavila ako druhý najsilnejší prediktor kvality života súvisiacej so zdravím. Najsilnejšie jej mieru predikoval stres, respektíve jeho absencia u respondentov.
