Price regulation of pharmaceuticals

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na popsání problematiky cenové regulace léčiv a zkoumá, které typy regulací jsou efektivní při snižování cen léčiv. V práci jsou popisovány rozdíly mezi farmaceutickým trhem a běžnými trhy a také nejběžnější typy cenových regulací. Empirická část práce je založena na hodnocení reforem cenové regulace léčiv ve vybraných Evropských zemích. Tyto reformy ukazují, že lze změnou cenové regulace výrazně snížit ceny léčiv. Jako efektivní se v tomto směru ukázaly např. interní referenční ceny a povinnost lékáren nabízet nejlevnější dostupnou alternativu.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis describes the topic of pharmaceutical price regulations and explores which type of regulation is effective in reducing pharmaceutical prices. The thesis describes differences between pharmaceutical and other markets and also the most common types of price regulation. The empirical part of the thesis is focused on evaluation of pharmaceutical price regulation reforms in selected European countries. These reforms show that is possible to change regulation to reduce the prices of medicine. A good example is the introduction of internal reference pricing and the obligation of pharmacies to offer the cheapest alternative.
