Vznik ACO byl inspirován pozorováním skutečných mravenců. Mravenci, a obecně sociálně žijící hmyz, jsou jako celek schopni úspěšně řešit problémy, které dalece přesahují schopnosti jednotlivců. Samoorganizované chování mravenců se ukázalo být dobrým modelem pro řešení výpočetně náročných problémů. Abstract:
The origin of Ant Colony Optimization was inspired by studying real ants. Ants, and generally social insect species, are as the whole able to deal with problems, which are far behind the abilities of individuals. Self-organized behavior of ants turned out to be a good model for solving some computationaly hard problems.
