Infrastructure for collecting command histories from cybersecurity training

Abstract:

Cílem práce je vytvořit infrastrukturu pro zaznamenávání příkazů zadaných do příkazového řádku účastníky kyberbezpečnostního tréninku. Sběr příkazů je významný pro další rozvoj tréninků. Umožní organizátorům například vizualizovat průchod tréninkem nebo poskytnout automatizovanou zpětnou vazbu účastníkům. Pro automatické nasazení této infrastruktury jsou vytvořeny předpisy pro nástroj Ansible, které ve virtuálním linuxovém prostředí (sandboxu) na zvolených uzlech zaznamenávají příkazy. Tyto předpisy byly otestovány v lokálně sestaveném sandboxu. Pro ukládání dat je vytvořen a nakonfigurován centrální server, na který se automaticky odesílají data ze všech sandboxů. Práce také popisuje zkušenosti z praxe při nasazení na platformě KYPO a porovnává výsledné řešení s již existujícími metodami a nástroji pro sběr příkazů.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to create an infrastructure for collecting command histories from cybersecurity trainings. This functionality is beneficial for future improvements of the trainings. It allows the organizers to visualize the progress of participants or to provide automatically generated feedback. Ansible roles were created for automatic deployment of this infrastructure that records the commands on selected nodes in a virtual Linux environment (sandbox). At first, the Ansible roles were tested locally and subsequently a central server was set up for storing the data. All the data are automatically forwarded to the central server. Finally, the thesis compares other possible ways of collecting commands and describes practical experiences from testing the infrastructure on the KYPO platform.
