Dance as a part of the contextualization of notions of naturalness and authenticity

Abstract:

Bachelor dissertation deals with the phenomenon of dance as a symbolic medium that, to a degree in which it is percieved in the context of art and bodiliness, is socially and culturally determined. Through a particular form - such as modern dance - does it approach concepts of naturalness and authenticity and examines the two-way relationship between these concepts as well as their connection to the dance practics. There are three main lines penetrating this work: What role do the categorized notions of naturalness and authenticity play in the modern dance and how are these manifested by it; how are these notions important for the agents of a dance event (ilustrated by the performance of a French choreographer Marie Chouinard within Dance Praha 2007); and what the function of such an understanding of dance for the society is. The work proposes that there are explicit as well as implicit contents of the notions of naturalness and authenticity in the modern dance that not only define but are also defined themselves by it, they also bear some significance for those who „mingle“ with dance. Last but not least, represent these behind the veil of „aesthetic“ also a social function (the work by its end mentions some institutionally grounded projects such as the political lead Vize tance or the dance-movement therapy).

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa venuje fenoménu tanca ako symbolického média, ktoré v miere, do akej ho chápe(me) v kontexte umenia a telesnosti, je sociálne a kultúrne determinované. Prostredníctvom konkrétnej formy - tanca moderného - pristupuje ku konceptom prirodzenosti a autenticity a skúma obojsmerný vzťah ako daných konceptov k sebe navzájom, tak ich náväznosť na tanečnú praktiku. Práca prelína tri základné roviny: Akú rolu hrajú kategorizované predstavy o prirodzenosti a autenticite v modernom tanci a ako sú tieto ním manifestované; aký význam majú tieto predstavy pre aktérov tanečnej udalosti (ilustrované predstavením francúzskej choreografky Marie Chouinard v rámci Tanca Praha 2007); akú funkciu má následne takéto chápanie tanca pre spoločnosť. Základnou tézou je, že existujú manifestné i latentné obsahy konceptov prirodzenosti a autenticity v modernom tanci, ktoré ho nielenže definujú ako taký a sú prostredníctvom neho sami definované, ale majú tiež význam pre spoločenstvo tých, ktorí sa okolo tanca združujú. V neposlednom rade predstavujú pod zásterkou „estetického“ tiež sociálnu funkciu (práca na záver uvádza niekoľko inštitucionálne zakotvených projektov ako politická iniciatíva Vize tance či tanečne – pohybová terapia).
