Ostrava architect Ernst Korner

Abstract:

Hlavním námětem této práce je osobnost původem uherskobrodského židovského architekta Ernsta/Arnošta Kornera. Klade si hned několik cílů - nejprve přiblížit architektův život a prostředí, z nějž vzešel, následně pak jeho tvorbu. Architekt je spjat zejména s ostravským prostředím, kde působil mezi léty 1918-1938 - pozornost je věnována právě jeho ostravským realizacím. Stavby jsou představovány s okolnostmi svého vzniku, nejprve z hlediska stylu. Během svého dvacetiletého působení zde stihl architekt projít hned třemi hlavními směry meziválečného období - historismem v podobě klasicizující architektury, expresionismem a novou věcností a funkcionalismem. U každého tvůrčího období jsou zdůrazněny charakteristické prvky, s nimiž architekt pracoval i možné inspirační zdroje. Dispozičním řešením a pojednáním fasád se pak zabývá samostatná katalogová část. Daným účelům posloužila zejména odborná literatura a v řadě případů také dochované stavební plány. Nedílnou součástí popisu staveb bylo rovněž vlastní pozorování.

Abstract:

The main subject of this work is the figure of Jewish architect Ernst/Arnošt Korner, originally from Uherský Brod. It sets several goals - first, to give an insight into architect's life and the environment that he came from, then his work. The architect is bound to the Ostrava region, where he worked in between the years of 1918-1938 - it fully focuses on his realizations in Ostrava. His buildings are presented with circumstances of their origin, firstly in context of style. During his twenty years long activity here, he managed to come through three main styles of the interwar period - historicism in the form of classicistic architecture, expressionism and the New Objectivy as well as functionalism. Characteristic elements of each period the architect used to work with are pointed out, as well as possible sources of inspiration. Separated catalogue part then deals with disposition and the designs of facades. These aims were achieved particularly with the help of technical literature as well as extant building plans. Personal observation was an integral part of building descriptions, too.
