Children's Free Choice of Activities in a Montessori Preschool

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Svobodná volba práce dětí v Montessori mateřské škole se zabývá pedagogickým systémem Marie Montessori a z něj zejména principem svobodné volby dítěte. V první části je představen celkový koncept Montessori pedagogického systému, historie vzniku předškolního vzdělávání v České republice, filosofické základy a principy tohoto alternativního vzdělávání Marie Montessori, hlavně princip svobodné volby. Také i na osobnost pedagoga i osobnost dítěte se v konceptu pedagogiky Marie Montessori pohlíží osobitě. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda se v Montessori mateřských školách uplatňuje princip svobodné volby dítěte, jak k tomuto principu přistupují učitelky a jak jej uplatňují a využívají děti předškolního věku. K zjištění tohoto problému bylo použito kvalitativní metody pozorování doplněno o dotazování učitelek Montessori mateřských škol, kde pozorování probíhalo. Charakteristika souboru, postup a vyhodnocení tohoto šetření je popsáno v praktické části této práce. Princip svobodné volby dítěte byl uplatňován ve vybraných mateřských školách, děti jsou vedeny k samostatnosti a odpovědnosti za své rozhodnutí, učitelky tento princip a volbu dětí respektují a dávají dětem dostatečný prostor a podmínky k výběru.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis named Children's Free Choice of Activities in a Montessori Preschool deals with Marie Montessori's pedagogical system, particularly with the principle of child's free choice of activities. In the first part of this thesis is introduced the overall concept of the Montessori pedagogical system, the history of the formation of preschool education in the Czech Republic, the philosophical foundations and principles of Marie Montessori's alternative education, and mainly the principle of free choice. Also, the personality of the teacher and child is looked upon individually in Marie Montessori's concept of pedagogy. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the principle of child's free choice is applied in the Montessori preschools, how the teachers approach this principle and how it is applied and used by the preschool children. To determine this problem, the qualitative method of observation was used, supplemented by questioning the Montessori preschool teachers where the observation was conducted. In the practical part of the thesis are described the characteristics of the set, procedure, and evaluation of this survey. The principle of free choice was used in the selected preschools. The children are led to independence and responsibility for their decisions, the teachers respect this principle and the children's free choice and give the children enough space and conditions for choice.
