The Use of Parental Attitude Research Instrument in Forensic Psychology

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřená na málo známý Diagnostický inventář rodičovských postojů (PARI). Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit a popsat vybrané psychometrické vlastnosti dotazníku PARI. Dále pak zjistit, zda se muži a ženy v postojích k výchově liší a zda existuje vztah mezi postoji k výchově a osobnostními charakteristikami respondentů. V teoretické části se zabýváme výchovou v rodině a soudní praxí při rozhodování o výchově nezletilých dětí po rozvodu, při které se dotazník PARI často využívá v rámci znaleckých posudků. Pozornost je věnována také samotnému dotazníku PARI, jeho charakteristice a vývoji v zahraničí i u nás. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 167 osob, z toho 85 mužů a 82 žen, kteří právě procházeli soudním řízením o svěření dítěte do péče. Užitými metodami ve výzkumu byl Diagnostický inventář rodičovských postojů (PARI), Dotazník klinické analýzy (CAQ) a Dotazník interpersonální diagnózy (ICL). V naší výzkumné studii jsme zjistili, že vnitřní konzistence některých škál PARI není dostatečná. Zjistili jsme také, že muži a ženy se významně liší v některých postojích k výchově a že existuje vztah mezi osobnostními charakteristikami respondentů a jejich postoji k výchově. Zjištěné výsledky mohou být přínosem pro soudní znalce z oblasti psychologie a jiné odborníky věnující se práci s rodinami. Studie také poukázala na potřebu dalšího výzkumu v této oblasti a na nutnost úpravy a standardizace dotazníku PARI, pokud má být nadále psychology používán.

Abstract:

This work is focused on not well-known Parental Attitude Research Instrument (PARI). The aim of this work is to find out and describe some of the psychometric characteristics of PARI questionnaire. We want to find out if there is a difference in attitudes to parenting between men and women and if there is any relation between attitudes to parenting and personal characteristics of the respondents. In the theoretical part we deal with upbringing in a family and how courts make decisions in custody of underage children after divorce. To make such a decision PARI is often used in expert reports. This work is focused also on PARI questionnaire, its characteristics and development abroad as well as in the Czech Republic. The researched unit was made by 167 respondents in total, 85 men and 82 women. The methods used for the research were Parental Attitude Research Instrument (PARI), Clinical Analysis Questionnaire (CAQ) and Interpersonal Check List (ICL). In the empirical part there was shown that the inner consistency of some of the PARI scales is not sufficient. We found out that men and women differ in their attitudes toward parenting and that there is a relation between attitudes to parenting and personal characteristics of our respondents. These results can be helpful to expert witnesses in the field of psychology and other experts who concern about work with families. The study also shows the need for another research in this field of study. It is also necessary to adjust and standardize the PARI questionnaire, if we keep on using it.
