The influence of Hinduism on the position of women in Indian society

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce si klade za cíl analýzu vlivu hinduismu a hinduistické kultury na postavení žen a jejich práva v Indické republice. V první části práce popisuje klasický koncept lidských práv tak, jak je prezentován v mezinárodním právu, důraz pak práce klade na ženská práva. Kromě toho se zabývá vlivem kultury na pojetí lidských práv a přístup k nim. V praktické části práce zkoumá situaci v Indii a to, jakou roli má v zemi hinduismus a to, jak se náboženství promítá do lidskoprávní problematiky země, zabývá se také právním systémem země a vlivem hinduismu na něj. Důraz klade na největší problémy, kterým země v otázce ženských práv čelí, a kroky, které země podniká ve snaze o jejich odstranění a zrovnoprávnění žen.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the influence of Hinduism and Hindu culture on the position of women and their rights in the Republic of India. The first part of the thesis describes the classical concept of human rights as it is in understood within terms of international law, with the emphasis on women's rights. In addition, it also focuses on the influence of culture on the concept of human rights within different cultures. The second part of the thesis examines the situation in India, the role of Hinduism in the country, and how religion is reflected in the human rights debate in the country. It also describes the legal system of the country and the influence of Hinduism on it. The thesis stresses out the biggest challenges the country is facing in the area of women's rights and the steps the country is taking to eliminate them and to equalize women.
