The effectiveness of coaching in the context of career counseling

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce bylo zaměřit se na problematiku efektivity koučování v kontextu kariérového poradenství. Snažili jsme se zjistit, zda existují rozdíly v různých proměnných v závislosti na typu poskytnuté intervence. Experimentální skupina podstoupila kariérové koučování, kontrolní skupina dostala k dispozici dvě komentované prezentace zaměřené na kariérové směřování. Konkrétně jsme srovnávali, jak se mění self-efficacy a well-being v závislosti na efektivitě poskytnuté intervence. Dále nás zajímalo, jaký má vliv počáteční motivace a otevřenost na efektivitu podstoupené intervence. V neposlední řadě jsme srovnávali objektivně hodnocenou efektivitu intervence s efektivitou subjektivně vnímanou. Subjektivní hodnocení jsme dále kvalitativně rozpracovali. Jako cílovou populaci jsme si zvolili studenty bakalářských oborů vysokých škol napříč celou Českou republikou. Celkový počet probandů, který splnil veškeré potřebné kroky k dokončení účasti na výzkumu, byl 80. Tento vzorek tvořilo 61 žen, 18 mužů a 1 respondent své pohlaví identifikoval jako jiné. Celý výzkum proběhl online vzhledem ke globálně nepříznivé situaci covidu-19. Na základě našich výsledků se nepodařilo prokázat rozdíl v nárůstu vnímané vlastní účinnosti v závislosti na skupině. Statisticky významný rozdíl se však objevil v nárůstu osobní pohody ve prospěch skupiny, která podstoupila koučování. Rozdíly v počáteční motivaci nesehrály významnou roli v efektivitě poskytnuté intervence. Efektivita podstoupené intervence se nelišila mezi skupinami ani v závislosti na výši počáteční otevřenosti. Souvislost objektivně a subjektivně vnímané efektivity intervence v závislosti na self-efficacy se neprojevila statisticky významně v žádné položce u koučované skupiny, kdežto u kontrolní skupiny byla signifikantní ve dvou položkách ze tří. Korelace objektivní a subjektivní efektivity v závislosti na well-beingu byla u koučované skupiny statisticky významná u jedné položky ze tří, u kontrolní skupiny u dvou položek ze tří.

Abstract:

The main goal of this paper was to focus on the effectiveness of coaching in the context of career counseling. We tried to find out if there are differences in various variables depending on the type of intervention provided. The experimental group underwent career coaching, the control group received two annotated presentations focused on career. Specifically, we compared how self-efficacy and well-being changes depending on the effectiveness of the intervention provided. We were also interested in the effect of the initial value of motivation and openness on the effectiveness of the intervention. Last but not least, we compared the objectively detected effectiveness of the intervention with the subjectively perceived one. We further processed the subjective evaluation qualitatively. As a target population, we have chosen undergraduate students from universities throughout the Czech Republic. The total number of probands who completed all the necessary steps in the research was 80. This sample consisted of 61 women, 18 men and 1 respondent identified its gender as different. The entire research was conducted online due to the globally unfavorable situation of covid-19. Based on our results, it was not possible to prove a difference in the increase in self-efficacy depending on the group. However, a statistically significant difference was found in the increase in well-being in favor of the group that underwent coaching. Differences in initial motivation did not play a significant role in the effectiveness of the intervention provided. Neither did the effectiveness of the intervention differ between groups depending on the amount of initial openness. The relationship between objectively and subjectively perceived effectiveness of intervention depending on self-efficacy was not statistically significant in any item in the coached group, while in the control group it was significant in two out of three items. The correlation between objective and subjective effectiveness depending on well-being was statistically significant for one item out of three in the coaching group, and in the control group for two out of three items.
