Adaptive algorithm for estimation of parameters in nonlinear regression models - implementation in R

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo implementovat v jazyce R dvojici adaptivních stochastických algoritmů pro odhad parametrů nelineární regrese. Na začátku teoretické části je popsán problém globální optimalizace a jeho řešení pomocí stochastických algoritmů. Následuje kapitola věnovaná regresní analýze, zejména nelineární regresi. Další sekce obsahuje úvod do výpočetního prostředí a programovacího jazyka R a jeho vybraných funkcí pro odhad parametrů nelineární regrese. Teoretická část je zakončena kapitolou věnovanou popisu implementovaných algoritmů. Adaptivní stochastické algoritmy byly implementovány v jazyce R ve formě balíčku a otestovány na kolekci 27 úloh nelineární regrese z databází NIST. Praktická část obsahuje popis balíčku a rovněž výsledky testování. V porovnání se standardními funkcemi prostředí R pro odhad parametrů nelineární regrese se implementované algoritmy na řadě testovacích úloh ukázaly být spolehlivější. Implementované algoritmy jsou pro uživatele R dostupné z repozitářů CRAN ve formě balíčku s názvem crsnls.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis is to implement two adaptive stochastic algorithms for the estimation of nonlinear regression parameters in R language. The problem of global optimization and its solution by stochastic algorithms is described at the beginning of the theoretical part. Following chapter deals with regression analysis, focused mainly on nonlinear regression. Computational environment and programming language R with its selected functions for the estimation of nonlinear-regression parameters is introduced in next section. The theoretical part is closed by the description of implemented algorithms. Adaptive stochastic algorithms were implemented in R language and tested on the NIST collection of 27 nonlinear regression tasks. The practical part includes description of the R package and the test results. Implemented algorithms proved to be more reliable on the test tasks in comparison with standard functions of R environment in the estimation of paramaters in nonlinear regression. Implemented algorithms are available to users in the form of package named crsnls from CRAN repository.
