Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce má metodologický charakter a je zaměřena na rozvoj žáka prostřednictvím volnočasového čtení. Volnočasové čtení je zde zkoumáno jako prostředek rozvoje žáka v procesu učení se cizímu jazyku. V teoretické části jsou popsána specifika studentů anglického jazyka, role literatury ve výuce, principy volnočasového čtení a jeho vliv na jazykové dovednosti žáka. Teoretická část se také zabývá integrací volnočasového čtení do vzdělávacího procesu. V praktické části je představen program využívající volnočasového čtení a výzkum zaměřený na potvrzení rozvoje žáků během tohoto programu. Výzkum se skládá ze dvou částí. V první z nich jsou zkoumány postoje žáků ke čtení v anglickém jazyce před a po programu pomocí dotazníku. V druhé části je použit jazykový test ke zjištění míry rozvoje žáků pomocí volnočasového čtení.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on language teaching methodology, namely on developing the learners’ skills through extensive reading. Extensive reading is explored as the means of overall learner development and as the important part of language acquisition. In the theoretical part the specifics of English language learners, the role of literature in the language classroom, the principles of extensive reading and the impact it has on developing the learners’ skills are described as well as the way how the extensive reading programme can be integrated into the language curriculum. In the practical part the extensive reading programme is introduced, together with the research designed to confirm the learners’ development through this programme. The research consists of two parts. The first part, the questionnaire, shows learners’ attitudes towards reading in English before and after the programme. The second part is the language proficiency test used with the learners to investigate the learners’ improvement during the programme as a result of extensive reading.
