Abstract:

This bachelor thesis Overseas Voyages and Elizabethan England describes trading as well as colonization overseas voyages undertaken under the reign of Elizabeth I. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the importance and scope of the voyages undertaken under the reign of Elizabeth I. In this thesis there is also evaluated the impact of the voyages on England?s position in the world. This bachelor thesis is divided into nine chapters. The first chapter is a lead-in and the aim of the thesis is defined there. In the second chapter there is described the reign of Elizabeth I. The third chapter deals with the development of navy and navigation. The fourth chapter summarizes the economic situation during the reign of Elizabeth I. In the fifth chapter there are described trading overseas expeditions undertaken under the command of Francis Drake, John Hawkins and Martin Frobisher. Chapter six describes the defeat of the Spanish Armada and the origins of British Empire. The first colonizing expeditions of America are evaluated in the seventh chapter. In the eighth chapter is the final evaluation of the overseas voyages undertaken under Elizabeth I. Conclusion summarizes the end of the reign of Elizabeth I.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Zámořské plavby za vlády Alžběty I se zabývá zámořskými plavbami a objevy za královny Alžběty I. V práci je popsán průběh a přínos jednotlivých obchodních plaveb a také kolonizačních výprav. Cílem práce je zhodnocení rozsahu a důležitosti zámořských plaveb za vlády Alžběty I. V práci je také analyzován dopad zámořských plaveb na postavení Anglie. Bakalářská práce je rozdělena do devíti kapitol. První kapitola je věnována uvedením do tématu a je v ní popsán samotný cíl práce. Ve druhé kapitole je obecně popsána vláda Alžběty I. Třetí kapitola se věnuje vývoji námořnictví a navigace, především pak budování anglického loďstva v šestnáctém století. Čtvrtá kapitola sumarizuje ekonomickou situaci za vlády Alžběty I. Pátá kapitola je zaměřena na obchodní zámořské plavby, které byly podnikány pod vedením významných námořníků a korzárů jako Francis Drake, John Hawkins nebo Martin Frobisher. Kapitola šest osvětluje počátky Anglie jako velmoci, kterou se pomalu začala stávat po porážce Španělské Armady. První pokusy o kolonizování Ameriky jsou popsány v sedmé kapitole. V osmé kapitole je samotné zhodnocení zámořských plaveb za Alžběty I a jejich dopadu na Anglii. Samotný závěr obecně popisuje konec vlády Alžběty I.
