Cultural and institutional determinants of international migration

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce „Kulturní a institucionální determinanty mezinárodní migrace“ je analyzovat význam kulturní a institucionální podobnosti zemí v rozhodování migrantů o volbě cílové země. První část práce je zaměřena na teoretické přístupy k migraci. Následně je provedena rešerše prací zabývajících se kulturními a institucionálními determinanty mezinárodní migrace. V poslední části je sestaveno několik regresních modelů, ve kterých jsou použity proměnné vyjadřující kulturní a institucionální vzdálenost mezi zemí původu a cílovou zemí. Na základě těchto regresních modelů je zhodnocen vliv těchto kulturních a institucionálních vzdáleností na migrační toky mezi zeměmi.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis „Cultural and institutional determinants of international migration“ is analyze the importance of cultural and institutional similarities of countries on migrant´s decision of choosing the country of destination. The first part refers to theoretical approaches to migration. In the next part is conducted the research of studies dealing with cultural and institutional determinants of international migration. The last part is focused on the construction of regression models using cultural and institutional variables reflecting the distance of the country of origin and country of destination. Based on these regression models the influence of these cultural and institutional distances on migration flows between countries is evaluated.
